Big News: Alexandra Burke leaves SyCo Records!

Here's something unexpected. The X Factor (UK) winner Alexandra Burke has left Simon Cowell's record label. After an overall of four million sales in the UK, Alex has left SyCo Records, home to many X Factor acts such as Leona Lewis, JLS, Olly Murs and most recent winner Matt Cardle, but dropped two X Factor artists from its roster this year - Shayne Ward and Joe McElderry. Personally I think SyCo are a bit rubbish at promoting their male acts, so with the subpar material Joe and Shayne got for their most recent albums, I'm not surprised they both tanked and eventually got dropped. I honestly see Matt Cardle heading the same way but you never know.

But I digress. Alex has left SyCo to be under RCA Records, which ironically, is home to Diana Vickers, who came in fourth on The X Factor the same season Alex eventually won. Previously, the deal was for Miss Burke to release her sophomore studio album jointly under RCA and SyCo, but obviously that deal has been scrapped and she's now solely an RCA artist.

It's not known exactly what caused the sudden move, but numerous online reports claim the move was mutual. Perhaps Alex and Simon's relationship turned sour when her mentor Cheryl Cole was booted off The X Factor USA and Simon being an overall arsehole about the entire situation. I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case, and with Simon getting more cocky and obnoxious, perhaps it's the right thing Alex chose to do.

Big News: How's Alexandra Burke doing on tour?

It's her debut headlining tour, so naturally, Alexandra Burke's working it on stage. And she's already got the haters talking. The ridiculous Daily Mail has never had a nice thing to say about her rather revealing outfits, but I personally think she looks rather fit. In some pictures of course, there's gonna be the odd, awkward looking unflattering shot that some amateur is going to take and spread it on the net.

You can't please everybody. Still, her trademark powerhouse vocals are still winning praise and aren't as opinion-splitting as her wardrobe choices. Comforting.

Mirror: I reckon this is gonna be one bad ass tour...

The Sun: she put in a really polished performance in Belfast, hammering out her hits including Hallelujah, Bad Boys and Start Without You. The pipes still sound just as good as when they netted her the X Factor top spot two years ago.

Daily Mail: in her attempt to go all out as she kicked off her All Night Long tour in Belfast last night, the former X Factor winner just ended up looking a bit over-the-top as she took to the stage in a bejewelled, cutaway leotard.

The Irish Times: one album coupled with a Destiny’s Child medley does not an all-night concert make. The cracks in Burke’s armour quickly become apparent – with just four dancers and two backing singers tucked away to the left of the stage, she cuts a lonely figure on a large and somewhat empty stage. Her vocals, impressive as they may be, are not quite enough to carry an entire concert – and any Beyoncé comparisons (five costume changes reveal leotard after leotard and one befeathered gown) fall flat without the heft of Knowles’ production behind her.

As long as I see the strobelights, I'm dancing all night long..

Big News: 2011 in Music Part II - British Invasion

2010 has been a successful year for boybands, with JLS' continued success, McFly's bloody awesome Shine A Light of a single, Take That's coming back together and #1 album, X Factor's One Direction taking third place in the final etc. Also, there's a new British band, namely The Wanted, who aren't strangers to the #1 spot on the UK Singles Chart, or #2 for that matter, after All Time Low and Heart Vacancy peaked respectively at those positions. Their latest single Lose My Mind, though, hasn't been doing too well. After a performance on The X Factor, Lose My Mind peaked a little too early at #29 in the UK. I blame the premature performance on The X Factor. Nevertheless, Siva of The Wanted talked to Digital Spy earlier about the band's plans for next year.

First off, the boys are going to tour next year and they said that a funfair theme seen in the Lose My Mind video might be incorporated into the tour. You can "expect a lot of wacky shows", and they "want to entertain and put as much of us into the performance as we can".

Secondly, the boys ARE planning to invade America. They've apparently lined up two weeks of recording and writing with various producers and writers. That's for a second album by the way. The boys have been signed to Def Jam over in the States and "hopefully try to release All Time Low".

When questioned about a fourth single lifted from their debut album, Siva said he wasn't too sure and that most likely there wasn't going to be another single. Pity then, their debut album has so much potential - Replace Your Heart, Hi And Low, Weakness and Made could rocket The Wanted to superstar status if they all became hits. Mismanagement screws up the album. Where have we seen this before.. *coughTheSaturdayscough*

Next up is Alexandra Burke who won The X Factor in 2008 and has skyrocketed to pop superstardom in the UK - with #1 singles Hallelujah, Bad Boys feat. Flo Rida and Start Without You. Her debut album Overcome has also managed the same feat over on the albums chart and has gone double platinum. Naturally, Burke has started talking about her second album.

On Twitter, she announced she was in New York to record with producer/songwriter Autumn Rowe and Qiana Conley. Talking about the new material for her sophomore set, she's said that "it's going to be a lot sexier and a lot more fun. None of the songs I've recorded that were meant for Overcome will make it onto album two". Thank goodness for that, we don't want some random weak material on the second album..

Also, the plan's to take the sophomore album to the States. To be honest, I think she can really make it in the States because she's the most charismatic performer after Leona Lewis.

When asked about her upcoming debut headlining tour, Burke said "I cannot wait for this tour! It's going to be something very, very special. When I go out to a club, I love dancing to uptempo songs and letting my hair down, so that's what I want the audience to have when they come to the tour. I want them to get to know me a little bit better, but at the same time I want it to be a night out for them. I want it to be fun, vibrant, bubbly and exciting! I want them to feel how I feel when I go out and that's why I've called it the 'All Night Long Tour'."

2011 in Music Part III - British Invasion II will be coming up soon.

Alexandra Burke live @ The Jingle Bell Ball

British pop siren Alexandra Burke got her sass on and took to The Jingle Bell Ball to perform her UK hits Bad Boys and All Night Long. I'm not sure why Miss Burke isn't performing The Silence, her current single, as much as she should be. Nevertheless, I don't think I need to tell you how good she was, because it's something we've come to expect from her. Check out Bad Boys above and All Night Long below.

Alexandra Burke - The Silence live on The X Factor (UK)

UK pop/R&B siren Alexandra Burke returned to the show that launched her mega successful career The X Factor (UK). After being crowned two years ago in 2008, the songstress has gone on to collect three #1 singles in the UK in just over two years. Re-releasing her multi-platinum selling debut album Overcome, Burke performed her fifth single The Silence on the show. The first half was kinda boring, but then knocked it out of the park when she hit the second half, easily showing those current contestants how to do it. Could she possibly have another hit on her hands? Most definitely.

Alexandra Burke - Start Without You live @ T4's Stars of 2010

Like what's happening with Pixie Lott (read below), Alexandra Burke is performing past hits at these big stages, even though Burke already has a new single The Silence in the pipeline, but obviously, they're gonna save a wanking live performance of that on The X Factor. Nevertheless, it's same ol' same ol' with this performance. Just with a bit more glitter.

Alexandra Burke - Start Without You live @ Children In Need

UK pop songstress Alexandra Burke's new single is The Silence, but Burke took to Children In Need to perform Start Without You again, but her performances never get old. I think she should be able to break the US. I HOPE. Enjoy.

Alexandra Burke - The Silence [Music Video Premiere]

The X Factor (UK) graduate Alexandra Burke recently hit Asia to do a little promo for Overcome and recently returned home to London. But before she left for Asia, Burke shot the video for her brand new single The Silence. The video shows nothing but a gorgeous Burke at a photoshoot. I expected a lot more from the video though. At least the song is good..

Big News: Alexandra Burke confirms next single!

UK pop/R&B star Alexandra Burke has had a very strong career coming off The X Factor (UK) since she won the reality TV singing competition back in 2008, beating out pop boyband JLS. Burke has had 3 UK #1s and all of her other singles have all been Top 10 hits in the UK. I've always wanted Burke to release a ballad as a single, but I knew Simon would never allow Burke to because we all know very well Burke is a threat to ballad queen Leona Lewis' crown.

Surprise, surprise! Burke's next single is The Silence, a fantastic gem from her album. RedOne says that there'll be a new version out on December. Interesting. I'm stoked for this, partly because it's Burke's first ballad release. But when there were rumours swirling that Dumb was going to be the next single, my absolute favourite from the album Overcome, it kind of made me anticipate that news. But oh well, The Silence is great, and we all know Burke can sing the heck out of the song. Check it out below and be prepared to get chills.

Alexandra Burke - Bad Boys + All Night Long live @ Concert For Heroes

Concert For Heroes had major stars performing at the stadium including Pixie Lott, Robbie Williams, The Saturdays and of course, Alexandra Burke. We've seen Start Without You already but now, two more performances are finally up, namely her UK #1 Bad Boys and UK Top 5 hit All Night Long. I love her crowd interaction, a stellar performer I can see making it big all around the world. Watch Bad Boys above and peep All Night Long below.

Pixie Lott & Alexandra Burke - Help For Heroes

Pixie Lott - Boys And Girls

The gorgeous pop starlet Pixie Lott sang her second consecutive UK #1 single Boys And Girls live at Help For Heroes. The blonde pop princess did a little dance routine in the middle, making her miss a couple of big notes in the performance. Boo.

Alexandra Burke - Start Without You

Former The X Factor (UK) winner Alexandra Burke took to the stage to sing her third UK #1 single (it just hit #1 yesterday *or today depending on where you are in the world*) Start Without You and delivered a good performance, something I've long expected from her. Also, Start Without You hit #1 on the Scottish Singles Chart and #5 on the Irish Singles Chart. Congrats, Alexandra!

Big News: Alexandra Burke set to release next single "Start Without You" 5th September!

UK Pop/R&B princess Alexandra Burke last stormed the charts with All Night Long, a collaboration with Pitbull that hit #4 on the UK Singles Chart and #1 on the Irish Singles Chart. Now, you'd expect her new single to be from her debut Overcome, but Burke has switched lanes and is releasing a completely new song called Start Without You. Reception to the song so far has been positive, and it will be officially released on the 5th of September while you can expect to see the music video premiere this week. Plans for her to crossover to America still isn't certain yet.. (I suggest they release the blazing Bad Boys in America first).
