Amy Ray to host songwriter event with Heather McEntire, Phil Cook & M.C. Taylor

Singer-songwriter Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls will host a special "Writers in the Round" event in Durham in January with some of the best local writers of the Triangle.

The event will be at the Casbah in Durham on Thursday, January 31 and will feature Heather McEntire of Mount Moriah, Phil Cook of Megafaun and M.C. Taylor, aka Hiss Golden Messenger. Tickets are on sale now via Etix for $15.

Phil Cook, Jack the Radio & Big Fat Gap to play free Indy show in Durham

To celebrate the annual The Independent's Best of the Triangle winners for 2012, the publication is throwing a free party in downtown Durham on Saturday, June 9.

The event will be at the American Tobacco Campus and will feature performances by Phil Cook and His Feet, Jack the Radio and Big Fat Gap. There will be food and other items for sale from local businesses who are Best of the Triangle

Lost in the Trees playing not so secret show tonight in Chapel Hill

Before heading off to the U.K. to play the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival next week, Lost in the Trees will hit another small stage in Chapel Hill tonight (they opened for Islands at Local 506 about a week ago).

The band will play the release party for Trekky Records' new compilation AMALGAM tonight (March 2) at the Nightlight. Advance tickets are available via Etix for $5, but I don't know how
